Michele’s portfolio boasts a diverse experience working with individuals in the community using a grass roots approach to delivering complex and multi-client solutions for larger organisations and institutions.
Michele began her journey studying for a BSc Hons in Psychology and Addiction, an MSc in Health Promotion and Population Health along with Diplomas in Counselling, specialising in bereavement and eating disorders.
Starting her career in a community setting and within GP practices, it soon became clear to Michele that there was an opportunity to bring a more holistic approach to health, over and above standard medical solutions. When looking at care plans for patients, Michele saw that there was a very obvious gap in people’s recovery programmes. Nutrition rarely, if ever, featured, despite the very obvious links, and now well recognised links between the gut and the brain, especially important in the cases of mental health disorders.
The inconsistencies and lack of cohesion between many health professionals when dealing with individual cases were disheartening. But she took great motivation and incentive from the healing styles and strategies used in the East. Determined to pursue this further, Michele went on to study nutrition, colonic hydrotherapy, intravenous nutritional therapy and reflexology.
Michele is dedicated to finding new ways to prevent and treat health conditions using natural therapies and is an advocate of education. She firmly believes that by listening, learning and understanding new solutions can be found to most health concerns. Having attained the Prestigious HPSS Quality Award (Altnagelvin Hospital, 2005) for Most Innovative Oncology Health Project where she worked for almost 10 years is evidence of this. Alongside Spearheading a complementary touch therapy clinic for patients on the wards and in particular palliative care patients, as an adjuvant to the western treatment plan was a perfect example of blending treatments from all sides of the globe.
Furthermore, her invitation to join an academic writing team to develop a Foundation Degree in Holistic Health and Science for the University of Ulster further demonstrates the respected position she holds.
Michele is also a certified Heartmath Coach and is the founder of Heart Space Academy for young people Working closely with community groups to address nutritional concerns, and their relation to stress, Michele’s work centres around building resilience. Heartmath is heavily incorporated within her nutritional consultations and day to day practice.
Leading a team of qualified Consultants, Michele operates from the Shipquay Townhouse Clinic; a beautiful restored Georgian property in the walled city of Derry, Northern Ireland, where she consults and treats an ever-increasing base of loyal clients.
